Remember we will soon be entering into the season of Lent which begins with Ash Wednesday, this year on Valentine’s Day Wednesday, February 14! Our Ash Wednesday service will begin at 7 PM and this year we will be hosting a soup and salad meal before the service! More on that to come!
But first February 4, is Super Sunday!
This Sunday will be week five and the final segment of Pastor Steve’s sermon series based on the book Unbeaten: How Biblical heroes rose above their pain…and you can too; and the quote, “pain is inevitable, but defeat is not.”
And you can start your Super Sunday off with a super pancake breakfast sponsored by the Sterling United Methodist Women which will be from 8 AM until 12:30 PM. The menu will include:
- Chocolate chip, blueberry, and plain pancakes (gluten free available too!).
- Bacon, sausage, (turkey bacon as well).
- Coffee, tea, Juices and milk.
Then attend one of our super worship services at 9 AM (Traditional), 10 AM (Spanish Language), or 11 AM (Contemporary with the Praise Band).
And also at 10 AM you can choose to use your time of study, prayer, serving, or fellowship in the best way that meets your needs in the Growing Deeper at Ten hour. Each week there are multiple Bible study groups including young adult, adult, and Spanish language. Other sessions include prayer, Christian family discussion, digging deeper into this week’s message, and serving our local missions.
This week our SERVE Mission’s activity will feature Jim Jochems presenting a discussion on SUMC’s local mission efforts as well as the focus of the groups we will be sending out this summer to do God’s work in other areas of our country. If you think you might be interested in being a member of one of our mission teams please attend this discussion! Trip applications are scheduled to be available this Sunday.
And since it is Super Bowl Sunday, if you are a young person, our LifeSigns youth group will be having a special event by hosting a Super Bowl party with food and the game Sunday evening at the church.
On Monday February 5 our Sterling United Methodist Women will hold their monthly meeting at 7 PM at the church. The meeting agenda will also focus on missions and the speakers will be Jim Jochems and Jeff Bradley, coordinators for GRACE Ministries which takes place at SUMC the second Saturday of each month. Everyone (male and female) is invited. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about GRACE Ministries: what they do and how you can help.
And as an action item in preparation for this meeting the UMW are inviting you to bring donations of baby wipes, full size toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, and other hygiene items that can be dropped at the Pancake Breakfast or brought to the UMW meeting. These items will be distributed at the February 10 GRACE Ministries distribution.
The weekend of February 9, 10, and 11 hosts two of Sterling UMC’s special mission efforts; the as mentioned GRACE Ministry and also Backpack Buddies. GRACE Ministries is a food and clothing distribution supporting our local Sterling and surrounding communities. You can help set up on Friday afternoon or help at the distribution from 7 AM to 11 AM (actual distribution 8 AM to 10 AM) on Saturday. Donations are being received now for Backpack Buddies supporting kids at Rolling Ridge Elementary. The packing of the “backpacks” will occur Sunday February 11 during our Growing Deeper at Ten hour.
We invite you to come and experience the joy of Jesus Christ in our worship, our Christian development, and our serving others in our community.
Sterling UMC is a community church and all are welcome to be our guest, attend our services and participate in our mission efforts.
