The month of July is a busy one at Sterling UMC.
Last Sunday the Mission Team members were commissioned and on Monday the Local Mission Outreach week started with an event for the seniors of our community. Members of our local mission team served lunch and afterward the group of about eighty seniors played bingo and enjoyed an Ice Cream Social in the Gallihugh Fellowship Hall.
Tuesday morning a group of mission team members worked in the DeShong’s Gift Back gardens in the rear of the church assisted by young people attending our Summer Camp. They picked vegetables that will be distributed to those who are hungry in our local Sterling community.
Activities for the rest of the week include working with Good Shepherd Alliance, Mobile Hope, Loudoun Habitat Restore, and GRACE Ministries; all serving the needs of our local Sterling and Loudoun community.
On Sunday the 15th the first of our two traveling mission teams will head for Atlanta to work with the homeless population there; and on Sunday the 22nd our second traveling team will depart for Baldwin, Louisiana and work in UMCOR’s (United Methodist Committee on Relief) Sager Brown supply depot which supports disaster relief in the United States as well as other countries.
The church is active again with young people with two weeks of Summer Camp this week and next followed by Vacation Bible School on beginning on July 23. There is still time to register for our second week of camp starting July 16 and Vacation Bible School on July 23.
Our sermon series Lessons from Mark continues this Sunday with part four: “Does Evil Win?”
And this Sunday is our Pizza Fellowship Sunday with pizza and salad being served in the Gallihugh Fellowship Hall after the 11 AM service (about 12 PM). Worship with us at 11 AM and stay for lunch or come to an earlier service and return for food and fellowship at noon.
