April Activities at Sterling UMC
We had an awesome Lent here at SUMC, culminating with our Holy Week activities and Easter Sunday. We hope many of you had an opportunity to share some time with us participating in worship and or many of the other activities we had going on that included the Easter Carnival and breakfast on Easter Sunday.
Now we continue with the Easter Season, the time according to the United Methodist Church that: also known as Eastertide or the Great Fifty Days, begins on Easter Day and ends 50 days later on Pentecost. Focusing on Christ’s resurrection and ascension and the sending of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost), Eastertide is the most joyous and celebrative season of the Christian year. We celebrate the good news that in Christ’s death and resurrection we, and all creation, are continually being made new by God’s love and saving grace.
Christ has died, Christ has risen, and we now continue to celebrate that time before Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.
This Sunday is Confirmation Sunday when our seventh-grade youth will finalize their studies and celebrate the Rite of Confirmation. There will be a reception during the 10 AM Growing Deeper at Ten hour in the Gallihugh Fellowship Hall.
Our United Methodist Women (UMW)will hold a fundraiser on Monday, April 9 at Joe’s Pizzaria in Sterling Park from 5 -9 PM. A percentage of all receipts will be donated to the UMW and used to support their various mission efforts. Come enjoy some pizza or Joe’s dinner and salad bar and support the Sterling UMW!
Our GRACE Ministries mission program returns the weekend of April 13 and 14 with set up for the food and clothing distribution occurring on Friday afternoon at 4 PM and the distribution following on Saturday, April 14 from 8 AM to 10 AM. Volunteers are always welcome for either Friday or Saturday.
On Sunday, April 15 we will pack backpacks for the Backpack Buddies Program that supports weekend meals for our local school children who need them. The packing will occur during our 10 AM Growing Deeper at Ten hour of service, study, prayer, and fellowship and be set up in our narthex (lobby) area.
Donations are being received now at the donation center in the lobby. Items that can be donated:

On Sunday April 22 after our 11 AM contemporary service, the Pizza Fellowship lunch will happen in our Gallihugh Fellowship Hall serving pizza and salad and drinks. All are welcome to attend our 11 AM service and stay for lunch or return to the church for lunch and discussion.
