Join Us for the Second Sunday of Advent and the Celebration of Christmas!

Join Us for the Second Sunday of Advent and the Celebration of Christmas!

This Sunday December 10 we will celebrate the Second Sunday of the Advent Season at Sterling United Methodist Church.  Our new sermon series, A Night for Rejoicing continues with Part Two: There Will Be Singing!

But even before we get to Sunday there is opportunity for service and fellowship!

We will be setting up for GRACE Ministries on Friday December 8 beginning at 4 PM and volunteers can also help out Saturday morning December 9 at 7 AM for the food distribution.

Our youth program has an event on Friday December 8 that includes helping out GRACE Ministries from 4 – 6 PM.  Then they will enjoy some dinner with Pizza in the youth room before they depart at 6:30 PM for some fun at Monster Mini-Golf in Chantilly, returning to the church between 9:30 and 10 PM.  Youth grades 6-12 are invited to come for all or part of the evening’s activities.  Contact Linda Budzinski at to receive a permission slip for the Monster Mini-Golf and to RSVP.  Parent drivers are needed, please contact Linda for that as well.

Also on Sunday December 10 during our Growing Deeper at Ten discipleship hour (10AM) we will be packing “backpacks” for our Backpack Buddies Program in the church Narthex (lobby area).  Please join us for the 9 AM service and stay to help out or come and help at 10 AM then stay for our 11 AM Contemporary Service.

Sunday December 17 is an exciting day as our choir presents this year’s Christmas Cantata.  The cantata is from A Night for Rejoicing: A Cantata for Christmas by Lee Dengler and Susan Naus Dengler.  The program will be performed at the 9 AM and 11 AM service.  Our 10 AM Amigos Spanish language worship service will not be held on Sunday December 17 as a result.

And if you attend our 11 AM Cantata Service we invite you to stay for a time of pizza and fellowship in Gallihugh Hall (our fellowship hall) after the service.

Sunday December 24 is Christmas Eve and the lighting of the final Advent Candles.  We will have five services on Christmas Eve including our Amigos Spanish language service at 10 AM;   our Sterling UMC children will perform their Christmas Pageant and Children’s service at 11 AM; and there will be three candlelight and communion services that evening at 7 PM, 9 PM, and 11 PM.

On Christmas Day our annual Shepherd’s Run mission event will occur.  Shepherd’s Run is an event where volunteers gather at the church then fan out with small gifts of food and the spirit of Jesus and Christmas as they visit those who are serving our community on Christmas Day; like our first responders, law enforcement, hospital and other health care workers.  Donations of baked goods can be brought to the Christmas Eve service and placed in Room 105.  If you would like to participate with the Shepherd’s Run on Christmas Day meet at the church at 11 AM for carols and assignments!

So please join us in December!  Attend our services, our Christmas Cantata, and especially worship with us on Christmas Eve!

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son”John 1:14, NIV

Merry Christmas!

Sterling United Methodist Church is a community church serving the Sterling community and its neighbors.  All are welcome to worship with us and participate in our ministries.  Please be our guest on Sunday mornings!
