Good Shepherd Alliance and Sterling UMC’s Local Mission Week

Good Shepherd Alliance is a Christian nonprofit that has served the homeless and near homeless in Loudoun County since 1983.  More than 3,000 men, women, and children are helped each year with the provision of almost 10,000 bed nights.  The Good Shepherd Alliance has a shelter and transitional housing that can accommodate immediate emergencies.   In addition to relying on private support from the community, Good Shepherd also operates three shops where it sells donated items to generate funds.

Sterling United Methodist Church, as part of this year’s local mission initiative, will be working with the Good Shepherd Alliance properties providing grounds maintenance on Wednesday, July 11th.  Volunteers will be needed all week for the variety of local mission efforts in our Sterling and Loudoun County community that will include a luncheon for our senior citizens; supporting our GRACE Ministry efforts; helping with the DeShong’s Gift Back efforts to feed the hungry by working in the vegetable gardens.

If you are interested or planning to assist with the work at Good Shepherd Alliance facilities, some preparation is required in the form of a background check.  Forms can be obtained through the church office or by emailing .

If you have questions about this activity or the others scheduled for the week of July 9-14 please email Steve Barham at .
