Good Shepherd Alliance and Sterling UMC’s Local Mission Week
Good Shepherd Alliance is a Christian nonprofit that has served the homeless and near homeless in Loudoun County since 1983. More than 3,000 men, women, and children are helped each year with the provision of almost 10,000 bed nights. The Good Shepherd Alliance has a shelter and transitional housing that can accommodate immediate emergencies. In addition to relying on private support from the community, Good Shepherd also operates three shops where it sells donated items to generate funds.
Sterling United Methodist Church, as part of this year’s local mission initiative, will be working with the Good Shepherd Alliance properties providing grounds maintenance on Wednesday, July 11th from 8 AM to 4 PM. If you are interested or planning to assist with the work at Good Shepherd Alliance facilities, some preparation is required in the form of a background check that needs to be completed by July 3. Volunteers will be needed all week for the variety of local mission efforts in our Sterling and Loudoun County community:
Monday, July 9 is the Senior Citizen Luncheon and Bingo from 9 AM to 4 PM. Mission Team members will assist with set up, food prep, transportation, greeting, serving, bingo, and clean up. The cost is $10 and includes a tee shirt and lunch.
Tuesday, July 10 there are two activities planned. Working with LINK in the morning from 9 AM to 12 PM and with DeShong’s Gift Back in the gardens from 1 PM to 4 PM. Cost will be $10 and will include lunch and a tee shirt.
Wednesday will be the Good Shepherd Alliance workday described above.
Thursday, July 12 there will be two activities. Mobile Hope in the morning from 9 AM to 12 PM and the Loudoun Habitat Restore from 1 PM to 4 PM. Cost will be $10.
Friday, July 13 the Mission Team will perform some church clean up in the morning and assist with staging and set up for GRACE Ministries. Start time 9 AM to 5 PM. Cost of participation will be $10.
Saturday, July 14 from 7 AM to 1 PM will be the GRACE Ministries food and clothing distribution.
