Shipwrecked, Rescued by Jesus, It’s Vacation Bible School Week at SUMC
It’s Vacation Bible School week here at Sterling UMC and the place looks like a tropical island. Tropical but definitely not deserted because there are happy kids, teachers, and volunteers everywhere; and the island is complete with palm trees and colorful characters. On this “Shipwrecked, Rescued by Jesus” remote island themed bible school, one memorable Bible point is reinforced throughout each station each day. With things like Castaway Sing & Play, Imagination Station, Ship Rec Games, KidVid Cinema, Tropical Treats, and Bible Discovery, the kids are enjoying a great time. VBS will run through Friday with a closing ceremony at 11:30 AM on Friday that all are invited to attend.
Our Atlanta mission team returned on Saturday and our Baldwin, Louisiana Sager Brown team left on Sunday. You can follow their activities on our Facebook Page.
This Sunday our sermon series, Lessons from Mark continues with part six: “What Happened to the Leftovers?”
With the new school year rapidly approaching we will be packing “backpacks” for our Backpack Buddies program again this year which supports kids at the Rolling Ridge Elementary School. The first packing for this school year will occur on Sunday, August 12 during the 10 AM hour. We are currently accepting donations to support that packing at the church narthex (lobby) donation center.
Current needs for this packing:
Juice boxes – 160
Noodle meals – 143
Canned meals – 150
And speaking of the new school year, we are excited to begin to roll out our new Sunday school curriculum from Deep Blue Kids: Deep Blue Connects at Home With God for the 2018-2019 school year. The program is designed for children nursery age to preteen with the preteen curriculum called Submerged. For more information contact or see our website for updates.
