Outreach & Service

Over time, without even knowing it, churches begin to lose sight of this mission and their focus turns more inward.  We build walls that insulate and separate us from the world.  Many churches have unintentionally succumbed to a fortress mentality.  The bricks and mortar, which we intended to provide a place of worship, have in effect walled us in so that we have little effect for the gospel in our neighborhoods. It’s saying to people, "we're not coming to you, so you better come to us."  "You have to penetrate our fortress before you can join the church."

We do not want that to be true of our church.  Our vision is that Sterling UMC would be a congregation that moves beyond the walls and onto the front lines to fight the battle for the souls of our community and world.  To that end we have established the “Front Line Ministry Team.”

The Front Line Ministry Team is a team of dedicated Christians with this purpose: Believing all are called to be in ministry, and to bear one another’s burdens, The Front Line Ministry Team exists to carry the love of Jesus Christ to all people through an ongoing intentional ministry of visitation and personal contact.”  This ministry seeks to target first-time visitors, new residents, inactive members, as well as our homebound members.

We invite you to join the ranks of the Front Line Ministry Team.

Front Line Ministry

Jesus in his final words before he was taken into heaven spoke to us these words: “Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.”  These words are known as “the Great Commission.”  This is our reason for existence.
