The Joy of Serving Christ

 “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t even have to make your subject and your verb agree… You only need a heart full of grace…a soul generated by love.”

—Martin Luther King, Jr.

 Putting Our Faith Into Action

United Methodists have believed, from the beginning, that each of us is called to participate in the outreaching ministry of Jesus Christ. John Wesley called the early Methodists to live out their faith by “doing good of every possible sort, and, as far as possible, to all”

Putting our faith into action is at the very heart of our Christian calling. By volunteering every person in the church has the opportunity to serve and to live their calling more faithfully.  (from the UMC.org)

Volunteers embody Christian love in action by bringing their diverse talents to mission programs, our local outreach ministries, assisting in our worship services, caring for those in our congregation, teaching and mentoring, building family through fellowship.

This week in our worship we will explore the joys and opportunities of serving Christ in our church and our community.

6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;

7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;

8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. (Romans 12:6-8)

As Dr. King said, “You only need a heart full of grace…a soul generated by love.”

Sterling UMC is a community church and all are welcome to be our guest, attend our services and participate in our mission efforts.
