2019 Local Missions Week

Sterling UMC will once again host a week of local missions work focusing on serving those in our local Sterling and Loudoun community.

The opportunities to serve will occur the week of July 8 through July 13.

The Sterling United Methodist Church has supported our local seniors with luncheons over many years and starting with last year’s local mission week it was moved to July and bingo and ice cream was added.  So again this year our local missions week will kick off with a Senior Luncheon including bingo and ice cream on Monday, July 8 from noon to 3 PM.

On Tuesday, July 9, volunteers will be working with Mobile Hope, a Loudoun County organization located in Leesburg that works to serve children and young adults in need, from 1 PM to 4 PM.

Wednesday’s service will be to assist the Good Shepherd Alliance of Ashburn at their facility performing various maintenance projects.  The team will work from 8 AM until 4 PM.  Good Shepherd Alliance services support our local homeless community.

Thursday there will be a morning activity and an afternoon activity for volunteers.  From 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM the team will work at the DeShong’s Gift Back Forrest Gift Garden located at the rear of the SUMC property.  This garden serves to support local food distributions including our own GRACE Ministries.

In the afternoon from 1 PM to 2 PM Hygiene Kits,  which contain a variety of toiletries and grooming needs,  will be assembled for distribution through Park View HS’s Patriot Preview (Back to School Open House) to local Sterling Park residents.

Friday is the staging day for the GRACE Ministries Food and Clothing distribution.  Volunteers will assemble at 9 AM to unload the truck and begin the set up of the fellowship hall.

On Saturday the GRACE Ministries Food and Clothing distribution will occur from 8 AM to 10 AM.  Volunteers should report at 7 AM with clean up generally completed by noon.

There is a Local Mission Week application available on the website Resources page or at this link.

There is also a sign up page for volunteers  and a sign up for donations needed for the Senior Luncheon and the Hygiene Kit assembly.

See the application for details including age requirements or restrictions.
