As everyone is getting back into the groove of school and fall schedules, we are busily preparing for our Fall Kickoff! This is the time of year that we start all of our educational programs back up and get excited for another year of learning and growing together. Our kickoff this year is on Sunday, September 8th and boy will it be a fun, action packed day. After services, be sure to join us for tacos in Gallihugh Hall and games for everyone throughout the church and parking lot. We will have the moon bounce set up, corn hole in the parking lot and lots more – rumor has it that a firetruck will be making an appearance! Check out what will be happening with all the ministries this fall at Sterling UMC:
On Sunday mornings there are lots of opportunities for children to get involved in Sunday School, be cared for in the Nursery or join their parents in service!
Our nursery is open every Sunday from 8:45am until noon, this is for our youngest friends through age 3. We also have a Preschool room open at the same time for children ages 3 through Pre-K – children in this room will attend the Children’s Message during the 9am service with the Preschool teacher, so they are welcome to start in the sanctuary with parents or in the classroom. There are Sunday School opportunities for elementary aged children all morning. During the 9am service, elementary children will start in the sanctuary and will then move to the Sunday School rooms after the children’s message. At 10am all elementary children are welcome to gather in Room 106 for large group and then will separate into Children’s Choir or Arts & Games for an extension of the group message.
This year our Children’s Ministry will be starting a new program called Club 345. This is an opportunity for children in grades 3, 4 and 5 to gather once a month for fellowship and service activities as a preparation for joining Youth Group in 6th Grade. Club 345 will also kickoff on September 8 at 5pm for a Pizza Party!
Youth Connections has been very active this summer and we are excited to be kicking off our new Fall Programs this year!
All students in Grades 6th through 12th will gather in the Youth Room at 10am for snacks and fellowship before moving to their individual groups. We will have 3 different groups for youth on Sunday Mornings at 10am. Our 6th Graders will be in Confirmation Class and we will have Boys and Girls Small Groups for everyone Grades 7th through 12th. We are excited to be implementing more of a small group structure this year to help build relationships and spend time together.
Youth Group will also kick off on September 8 from 5:30 to 8:00. Come join us to kick off a BIG YEAR with BIG GAMES
During our Growing Deeper at Ten Discipleship hour, there will be multiple adult bible study opportunities:
Sacred Marriage: What if God Designed Marriage to Make US Holy, More Than to Make Us Happy?
This group will be studying the book by Gary L. Thomas and will explore why happy is good, but holy is better. Your marriage is more than a sacred covenant with another person. It is a spiritual discipline designed to help you know God better, trust him more fully, and love him more deeply. What if God’s primary intent for your marriage isn’t to make you happy… but holy?
This study is facilitated by Gina and Ron Gallihugh and will begin on Sunday, September 15 in the Parlor
How Happiness Happens: finding Lasting Joy in a World of Comparison, Disappointment and Unmet Expectations
This group will be reading Max Lucado’s book How Happiness Happens – Do you feel happy? How long has it been since you felt a level of contagious, infectious, unflappable, unstoppable happiness? In a world searching for happiness, bestselling author Max Lucado provides a personal plan for a life filled with lasting and fulfilling joy, supported by Jesus’ teaching and modern research.
This study is facilitated by Abby Hernley and will begin on Sunday, September 8 in Room 02 (downstairs classroom)
This is our longest running adult Sunday School Class which will continue meeting for study and fellowship.
This group is facilitated by Al Eddy in Room 107
B & B: Bocadillos y Bendiciones (at 11am)
Our Spanish language small group focuses on spiritual disciplines – how we understand them, how we can practice them as an individual and as a group and how to include them in our daily routines to bring transformation to our lives.
This group is facilitated by Rev. Marcela Jarman in Room 104 following the Amigos Worship Service
We hope to see you and your family here on Sunday, September 8 as we kick off the program year in the life of the church.
