God’s Messy Family: A New Year Sermon Series
In his book, God’s Messy Family: Finding Your Place When Life Isn’t Perfect, author and pastor Jacob Armstrong takes a look at our faith lineage by focusing specifically on the messy family dynamics found in the Book of Genesis. By looking at the life stories of Abraham and Sarah, and their direct descendants – we find a pattern that looks a lot like our life story.
This past Sunday, Sterling UMC’s Pastor, Steve Vineyard, began the first of a six sermon series based on Jacob Armstrong’s book. As Pastor Steve explains in his first sermon, the book tells the story of the Abraham, considered to be the father of all God’s people, and his family, the First Family of the Bible. Though God chooses this unlikely group of people to work through, can’t we see ourselves in this family?
Just like Abraham’s family we are called to action, we mess up, yet God continues to redeem us.
The story of Abraham and his family starts in the book of Genesis, Chapter 12 and continues until the end of the book with the deaths of Jacob and his son Joseph.
This Sunday, January 20 Pastor Steve continues his message with part two of God’s Messy Family titled “God’s Promises Fulfilled.”
