Sterling UMC has begun holding small, in-person events following our Healthy Church Team’s release of “Guidelines and Checklists for Planning Events During a Pandemic.” The following events are now occurring weekly on church property:
Bi-Lingual Outdoor Worship
Sundays at 10 a.m.
Every Sunday, Pastor Marcela and Pastor Linda lead a bilingual worship service in Sterling UMC’s Outdoor Worship Area. Space is limited, so everyone is asked to pre-register no later than the Friday before worship. To pre-register for this worship service, click here.
Wednesday Evening Bible Study
Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
Starting on October 14, Jim Gallihugh will lead a Bible Study on Wednesday evenings in Gallihugh Hall. The study will begin by finishing up the book of Acts and then will take suggestions from members of the group as to what to study next. All members are asked to pre-register for the Bible Study every week. If you are interested in attending this study, please click here.
Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. & 7 p.m.
Pastor Linda and our Director of Connections, Paulette Almond, lead a prayer walk around the church property every Thursday morning and evening. They pray for everything from the playground and the children that will play there, to the garden and the people who will be fed by its fruits, to the missions vehicles and all those who require assistance, and so much more. Pastor Linda leads the walk on Thursdays at 8:30 am and Paulette leads the walk on Thursdays at 7 pm. If you would like to sign up and join one of these walks, please call the church office at (703) 430-6455.
Prayers and Squares
Saturdays at 9 a.m.
Every Saturday, Prayers and Squares meets in the Jacobus Building. They work to create prayer quilts for those who are home bound, sick, or have lost a loved one. If you are interested in joining this quilting group, please email to request more information.
Sundays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Every Sunday, our Youth Group meets outside from 6 – 8:30 pm. The group gathers and plays a game followed by a message and time of small groups. It is open to any youth in grades 6 – 12 and everyone is asked to pre-register each week. To register for this event, please click here.
There are also events happening that do not meet each week. For example, Grace Ministries meets every few weeks to distribute food to those who need assistance. Busy Hands meets to assist with the needs of the church office, grace ministries and any other task that may be needed. If you are interested in either of these groups, please email
