Lenten Devotional for February 12
Read: Philippians 2:1-11
Therefore, God highly honored him
and gave him a name above all names,
so that at the name of Jesus everyone
in heaven, on earth, and under the earth might bow
and every tongue confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
God, you’re called by many names,
each one a precious part
of your awesome character
I treasure in my heart —
God Almighty, Lord of Hosts,
the Lion, and the Lamb,
Savior, Father, Word-made-flesh,
the Vine, the Great I AM,
Living Water, Prince of Peace,
the Way, the Truth, the Life,
the Resurrection, Holy One,
Redeemer, Healer, Light,
Lord of the Harvest, Bread of Life,
Creator of all things,
Ruler of all Righteousness,
My Rock, the King of Kings,
Great Comforter, Emmanuel,
Beginning and the End.
Yet the name I cherish most of all
is when I call you Friend.
—Lori Z. Scott,
O God, the Great I Am. You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Your name is to be praised. Amen.
What name(s) for God do you most often use in prayer and conversation? Which names help you draw closer to God? Why?
