The 2020 Summer Mission Program
Sterling United Methodist Church has announced its summer Missions trips and the applications now available on the Sterling United Methodist Church website Resources page.
This year’s program includes two opportunities to serve in mission. The first opportunity is the Youth trip in support of the Appalachian Service Project (ASP) located in the southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee area; the second is a return to Costa Rica after an absence from international trips.
Appalachian Service Project or ASP is a Christian ministry that serves through providing volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia making homes warmer, safer, and drier. Last year 16,231 volunteers served to provide critical repairs for 493 families and constructed over 60 new homes.
This trip is open to volunteers ages 12 and above and will primarily be a youth trip. Participant cost is $175 with a $75 deposit required by the application due date of February 15. The dates of travel are July 12 through July 18.
The second trip this year is a return to international missions service with the team going back to Costa Rica on July 18-25. The team will work with a group called the Costa Rica Missions Project which is a partner of the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM).
Costa Rica volunteers need to be age 16 or age 15 if accompanied by a parent. Participant cost is $475 with a $350 non-refundable deposit due by the application deadline date of February 15.
Volunteering to serve on a travel mission team is a life changing experience that often takes you out of your comfort zone but you are a different person when you return with a stronger relationship with Jesus.
The application deadline for both trips is February 15 and space is limited. Applications can be downloaded here.
